On this page you can express your views about the course directly to Greg Evans.

He will answer questions and give explanations for some of the activity that you may see.

He will also welcome useful suggestions to help improve our course

because it is his ambition to make Ealing the best in Middlesex and far beyond.

So if you visit other courses and are impressed by something that could be implemented at Ealing,

then let him know about it.

Chats will remain current for 30 days from the reply, if there is one.

Hooray!  Someone has made a last minute effort to tidy up the area. The cardboard has gone with all the other junk. Now who ever puts their rubbish there please put it behind the container neatly.

Just in time for Captains Day.

Hi Peter and Alex
Thanks for your comments.
I agree that the first impression of the golf club is abysmal. Partly this is down to finance but more care could be taken in keeping this area tidy. At present I don't think anybody has responsibility for this area. The greenstaff's responsibility is the condition of the golf course. At present we are flat out keeping it in the condition that members now expect. We would like to do more i.e. divoting of fairways, but at present we don't have the resources. Through the summer months, Isaac looks after the garden, 1st tee and putting green. His hours are 12 per week and he does an excellent job. I think by increasing his hours we could give him the responsibility of maintaining the nets, the path and the car park as well.

The main focus for the past two years has been the condition of the golf course. We are well on our way to achieving our aims and now we need to look at other areas. Bunkers are one area and a five year renovation program was started last winter. Now it's time to look at the first impression of our golf club and the walk from the 8th green to the 9th tee. This is a big task and will need additional monies made available but I think it is becoming a priority. The fact that members are now bringing guests from Walton Heath proves that they are proud of our golf club again. Where we are letting ourselves down is in the first impression.

The greens committee is in the process of publishing a course policy document.  A five year work schedule is contained in that document. That schedule covers plans for this area.  The work now needs to be budgeted for as a matter of urgency.

In the meantime, when I get back from holiday I'll get a party together to tidy this area up.
Thanks again for your comments.

Peter you are correct.  The area is often discussed at board meetings but somehow it never actually gets a result. It needs careful planning if we are to do the job properly but until whenever that may be and most likely not in my year, we have to try and do something ourselves.

Robert putting up that gate was very good but just what is it actually doing?  I presume that it was to hide the waste but when spillage overtakes the space for the rubbish this will always happen.  I suggest a short term policy of boarding the back as well as the front.  Can’t Greg just once take it all and dump in his skip?

Thereafter it would be up to the people in the pro-shop to put their cardboard neatly in a stack. In other words break it down so it is flat and not dump it as a whole unit.  You know they say Cleanliness is next to Godliness and this would be nice to see.

I would suggest Tuesday when I will be there to help Greg or anyone who really cares, by dumping all the Hoovers, seats, battery-chargers, cardboard etc., into a truck and putting it in Greg’s skip. If anyone out there wants to give a hand then turning up about 10.30am would be fine.

25 June.

Alex, your points about the warm up area are clearly correct re the untidiness,   both of our making and lack of attention to the area, and the Captain's proposals are admirable, but not  the long term solution.

I just wondered, are there any plans to develop this area.  A good 4 bay practice set up would surely encourage more members to use the facility for serious practicing....I certainly would.....and maybe it could be used by Ricky for lessons, especially in the winter........and especially if it had a form of roofing over it!  In other words, a serious practice facility.

My comment is made clearly without any considerations of cost etc., and there are probably pros and cons, or other plans of which I am not aware.   I am sure this area is already somewhere in the boards plans,    but I would welcome some development along these lines.

There is an opportunity for something worthwhile in that area.

In the meantime, maybe Isaac could be asked to give the mats a sweep and tidy the net area each day. That would be a start.

Just a suggestion.

Alex..Your point is well taken but with Greg working his butt off making the course the WAY YOU WANT IT it is very hard to find time to do the other things that are just to improve the ambience, but Alex make I may a suggestion that after Captains day you and anyone else feels like coming along perhaps about 10 of us we could do wonders to improve this area.

Hi Greg/Guy
Shane had a guest over from Walton Heath on Friday 20th and whilst we were all proud to show off our course to him, his initial impressions were not favourable.

Whenever a visitor arrives at our course, the first thing they tend to do is go to the net to warm up. What an eyesore that whole area is. The car park area has all the hallmarks of a builders merchant;  there is enough cardboard on view to house 90% of the homeless in London; the mats are poor - torn and dirty; the area between the mat and the actual net frequently has debris/litter/puddles in; the hedge//bush behind them mats is unkempt and frequently full of empty bottles (I'd suggest removing it) and the area to the right of the nets also gives a poor impression with the presence of what looks like hogweed. As I say, we have finally got a course we can all be proud to invite people to - what a shame that a visitor's first experience of our wonderful course is such a let-down.

Just for information, at St Georges Hill Golf course, they have a couple of warm-up nets where they have put a piece of matting at a slight incline so that when the ball hits the net, it gently rolls back to your feet.  Again, not rocket science but a nice touch.

I do hope you and Greg take this on board and authorise some work. A good couple of hours work would transform that whole area and I believe that everyone would benefit.
Cheers
Alex Pierce
