Dear Fellow Senior

The newer fellows among you may not be aware of the Seniors Section which is specifically for members who have reached the (magic?) age of 60.  For your information, the section plays friendly matches against the Seniors Sections of eight nearby clubs.  Teams normally consist of ten members each side and matches are played on a four-ball better-ball basis, home and away.  Our home matches normally tee off at 10.00 a.m. while the away matches usually tee off at 8.30 or 9.00 a.m.  The matches are followed by a lunch in which we would expect everyone to participate.  We also hold a knockout competition for the John Brunton Silver Salver.  A call for entries will appear shortly on the Seniors notice board.  Entries will be via the Pro Shop for a fee of £5.

I have agreed once more to take on the role of Seniors Captain this year but it is again necessary to “share the load” of organising teams, a system which worked very well in previous years.  I shall be responsible for all general correspondence, including the Ealing Seniors Open in September, but several people have agreed to assist again by taking responsibility for organising matches with individual Clubs.

In addition there is a more serious competition – the Felmingham Trophy.  This is a knockout competition and currently has 20 Clubs participating.  I also organize this on behalf of the Seniors Section but I am not involved in any team selection.  Ealing had an excellent year in 2007 reaching the semi-final only to lose to the eventual winners of the trophy – West Middx.

.

A copy of the Fixture List for 2008 is attached and we invite you to sign up for matches on the “call for players” sheet which will be put on the Seniors’ notice board some three weeks before each match; alternatively you can contact the Team Captain directly.  Please do not wait to be asked.  The selected team will be announced nearer the day.  I hope that our regular players will continue to participate in these enjoyable meetings but we also look forward to seeing some new faces too.

The regulars will notice a couple of changes this year.  Firstly the Seniors Open has been moved to September – it has been getting gradually earlier each year.  Secondly, I have decided to remove the weather lottery from the Tony Poil Cup.  This will now be played on Seniors Championship day and will become the Seniors Championship trophy

If you have any queries, you can contact me on 01895 673810.

Yours sincerely

Rick Rickards

Seniors Captain
